Edible is Beautiful

I find it insane each time I hear about a city or HOA throwing a fit over front yard vegetables. We don’t currently have any edibles out front, although it’s on the to-do list once we figure out how to work around the homicidal tree. But for a lot of people the front yard is a better location for vegetables, either because of layout or the amount of sun. If you really want to grow a lot, planting in both front and back is the only option.

Potato Flower

Flowers are okay just about everywhere. Good, because most vegetables flower!

Bean Flower

Sometimes these flowers rival ornamental-only plants.

Strawberry Flower

Even better, you get attractive foliage with those flowers. Most people remember to water their veggies more than ornamentals, so you may even end up with more attractive foliage.

Tomato Flowers

You can mix and match vegetables, just like you would ornamental flowers, so your yard features a range of blossom colors and shapes.

Anahiem Pepper Flower

Each of those tiny flowers is a promise of fruit to come…

Chamomile Flowers

But I guess if you can’t win, plant ornamentals that are edible instead. Sometimes a stealth garden is better than no garden at all.
